A SECOND LIFE FOR MILITARY CANVAS

Before it held watches, this fabric served another purpose.

We make each of these watch rolls from authentic vintage U.S. Army shelter halves—military textiles originally designed to be carried by soldiers and joined together to create field shelter.

By the time they reach our Omaha studio, many have already lived long lives. Faded areas, original stitching, reinforcement, repairs, markings, stains, and variations in color remain visible across the fabric.

We don't try to erase that history.

We design around it.

NO TWO ARE ALIKE

When we cut a shelter half, we deliberately incorporate as much evidence of its former life as possible.

An original chain-stitched seam might run across one roll. Another may contain a field repair, reinforcement stitching, a faded marking, or an area where decades of use have changed the color and texture of the cloth.

That means no two watch rolls will ever be exactly alike.

These aren't defects or imperfections. They're evidence of use—and the reason we chose this material in the first place.

UP-CYCLING WITHOUT ERASING THE PAST

There is a difference between recycling a material and preserving what makes that material interesting.

We could cut around every seam, repair, stamp, and irregularity and make each roll look nearly identical. Instead, we treat those details as part of the design.

The original shelter half is no longer useful for the job it was made to perform. But the material itself still has years of service left in it.

Our job is to find its next purpose.

FROG SKIN HERRINGBONE TWILL

Inside, we pair the vintage military shell with premium Japanese cotton herringbone twill printed in the reversible frog skin camouflage pattern associated with American equipment of the WWII era.

The herringbone twill provides a durable but soft surface against watch cases, bracelets, and straps, while light padding between the shell and lining adds protection without unnecessary bulk.

Six individual compartments keep watches separated when the roll is closed.

The camouflage is mostly hidden in use—a small reference to the history of the material on the outside.

HORWEEN CHROMEXCEL + SOLID BRASS

A Horween Chromexcel leather strap and solid brass buckle secure the roll closed.

Chromexcel is a full-grain leather known for developing a rich patina through handling and use. Paired with vintage military cloth that has already accumulated decades of wear and a brass buckle that will develop its own patina, it felt like the appropriate combination.

None of these materials are intended to remain pristine.

MADE FOR WATCHES. MADE FROM HISTORY.

Opened flat, the roll organizes and protects up to six wristwatches. Rolled closed, it packs easily into a travel bag, carry-on, or safe.

But function is only half the reason we make this version.

We spend a lot of time thinking about useful objects and what happens to them when their original purpose ends. Military textiles are particularly interesting because they were engineered first and foremost to perform a job—not to become collectible or precious.

These shelter halves did their first job.

We cut and sew each one by hand in our Omaha, Nebraska studio and give the material another.
