BUILT FOR WORK AT THE POTTERY WHEEL

A standard apron works well when you're standing at a workbench. Working at a pottery wheel is different.

Our No.412 Ceramicist Apron was designed specifically for the seated position of a potter at the wheel. Its overlapping split-leg construction allows each side of the apron to fall naturally over your legs as you sit, providing coverage where a conventional straight apron tends to bunch, pull, or leave your legs exposed.

The result is a pottery apron that moves with you rather than against you—whether you're throwing at the wheel, wedging clay, glazing, trimming, or moving around the studio.

    STONE-WASHED AMERICAN DENIM

This version of our No.412 is made from 10 oz denim woven in the USA by Vernon Mills.

We stone wash the denim to soften the fabric and give it the comfortable, broken-in character of a well-used pair of jeans. The washing process takes away the stiffness of new denim while retaining the durability that makes denim such a natural material for working clothes.

For a pottery apron, that balance is especially useful. The denim has enough substance for the mess and abrasion of regular studio work, but remains soft and flexible while you're sitting at the wheel, bending, reaching, and moving around the studio.

And because clay and clean clothes rarely coexist for long, the denim is machine washable.

    OVERLAPPING SPLIT-LEG COVERAGE

The defining feature of the No.412 is its split-leg construction.

Rather than simply adding a slit to the bottom of a conventional apron, the two lower panels overlap. When you're standing, they provide generous coverage. Sit down at the pottery wheel and the panels separate naturally to follow your legs, helping protect your lap and thighs from clay, slip, water, and the general mess of making ceramics.

It's a simple design developed around the way potters actually work.

    REMOVABLE CROSS-BACK STRAPS

Long sessions at the wheel shouldn't mean having an apron hanging from the back of your neck.

The No.412 uses adjustable cotton cross-back straps that distribute the apron across your shoulders instead. The straps can also be completely removed for laundering.

Making them removable serves another purpose: if a strap eventually becomes worn or damaged, it can be replaced without replacing the entire apron.

    POCKETS WHERE THEY'RE USEFUL

A divided pocket across the front bib keeps frequently used pottery tools close at hand without adding unnecessary bulk around your lap.

Behind the bib is a larger kangaroo-style pocket for the things that don't fit neatly into smaller compartments.

Like the rest of the apron, the pocket layout is intentionally straightforward. We want an apron to support the work—not compete with it.

    AMERICAN DENIM. MADE IN OMAHA.

The denim begins in an American textile mill. The finished apron is cut and sewn in small batches in our Omaha, Nebraska studio.

ARTIFACT has been making purpose-built bags, aprons, and accessories since 2010. Working in small batches allows us to pay attention to material selection, construction, reinforcement, stitch quality, and how a product performs after repeated use.

We don't think of a pottery apron as disposable studio gear. It's a working tool. We make ours to be used hard, washed, broken in further, and kept in service.

A DENIM POTTERY APRON MADE FOR POTTERS

Whether you're a professional ceramicist, a pottery student, a teacher, or someone building a home ceramics studio, the No.412 was designed around the particular way potters work.

American-made denim. Split-leg mobility. Comfortable cross-back straps. Useful pockets. Machine-washable construction. Small-batch made in Omaha.

The stone washing gives this one a head start. From there, the denim will continue to soften and develop character through the work you do in it.
